Strange Rash Outbreak in Mbang
Through the intervention of Nile and Edna Fisher Clinic and Maternity, children affected by a highly contagious skin rash are receiving treatment, while families are being equipped with knowledge to help prevent further spread.
In Mbang, a painful health challenge is affecting some of the community’s most vulnerable members: its children. What makes this situation particularly heartbreaking is seeing young children struggle with painful skin rashes affecting their ears and hands, accompanied by high temperatures and a loss of appetite.
For a child, even an ordinary day of playing, learning, and laughing can become difficult when illness takes over. Watching these little ones suffer has been deeply saddening.
The fear of the rash spreading to other children adds another layer of anxiety to an already difficult situation.
Our clinic has been responding with compassion and care. Nile and Edna Fisher Clinic and Maternity has intervened to provide treatment for the affected children. The clinic is attending to those in need of medical care while also sensitizing families and the wider community on preventive measures to help limit the spread of the rash. This response goes beyond treating symptoms. It is about protecting children, reassuring families, raising awareness, and helping the community understand the importance of early medical attention and good hygiene practices.
Community education is especially important when an illness appears to spread easily. For the children experiencing fever, discomfort, and loss of appetite, timely medical attention matters.
Mr. Olivier said, “My 2 children and my brothers daughter have been affected by this rash and seeing their ears and their hands plus the fever and loss of appetite has been so frustrating and we have been so confused as the herbs we were using was not helping the situation. The clinic’s intervention has been so effective and has given us the reassurance that we are not facing this challenge alone. I am so thankful that my children are doing better after taking medication from the clinic.”
It is difficult to watch children hurt. It is even more difficult to imagine a child struggling with fever and discomfort when all they should be doing is enjoying the simple joys of childhood.
Thank you to everyone who has contributed medication and other support to Nile and Edna Fisher Clinic and Maternity. Your generosity is helping the clinic respond to the needs of children and provide care when families need it most. Your contributions are making a meaningful difference in the lives of many in Mbang.
We are grateful for every act of kindness, every contribution, and every effort made to keep these children and our community members safe and healthy. Every dose of medication received make a difference and it’s all thanks to you and your generosity.
Talking about the outbreak of the rash, Dr. Nkar had this to say:
“The work is not over. As treatment continues, the community must remain alert, informed, and united. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to seek prompt medical assessment for children who develop unusual rashes, particularly when accompanied by fever or reduced appetite. Children who are unwell should receive appropriate care and follow the clinic’s guidance on limiting contact with others until they are no longer considered infectious. Any child with a high fever, difficulty drinking, signs of dehydration, unusual drowsiness, or rapidly worsening symptoms needs urgent medical attention.
We are still working on the cause of the outbreak. Until then, the community’s response must be guided by caution, accurate information, and compassion rather than fear or stigma. Our hope is that, with continued treatment, early reporting, community sensitisation, and sustained access to essential medication, more children will recover and families will find relief.”
The sight of these children suffering has been heartbreaking, but we hold on to hope. With compassion, medical care, community cooperation, and the generosity of people like you, we are helping to bring relief to these little ones.
Thank you once again for the medication and for helping us care for the children of Mbang. Together, we are turning compassion into care and giving hope to children who need it most.
